Energy Materials for Innovation (EM4I) Workshop series - Materials Discovery and Development

Starting in Summer 2021, the EERA Joint Programme on Advanced Materials and Processes for Energy Applications (JP AMPEA), together with the EERA Joint Programme on Nuclear Materials (JP NM) and the transversal Joint Programme Digitalisation for Energy (tJP DfE), will be hosting a workshop series on "Energy Materials for Innovation (EM4I)". The series covers the integral stages of materials research, from discovery to scale-up productions, device development, industrial integration and sustainability, as well as cross-cutting technologies supporting these actions.

Within this framework, six focused technical workshops followed by a final conference to be held in Brussels are foreseen. The final conference will be dedicated to drawing conclusions on strategic research aspects concerning energy materials.

This workshop series will bring Materials Science to the forefront of Europe's energy research landscape, highlighting how different stakeholders (researchers, industries, and policymakers) can achieve the net-zero objectives also through concerted research and innovation efforts.

The first workshop will be held on 1 July 2021 and will be dedicated to "Materials Discovery and Development". The event will be filled with webinars given by experts in the exascale modeling of new materials, cross-cutting characterization techniques and much more.

The event will feature the following sessions:

  • EM4I workshop series inauguration  Dr. Teresa Ponce de Leão - President of LNEG (PT) & EERA Vice-President
  • Energy Materials Research – industrial success story  Dr. Philippe Jacques - Managing director, EMIRI
  • Materials Innovation SME – a success story  Dr. Alvise Bianchin - MBN Nanomaterialia (IT)
  • Data driven and AI supported material discovery  Dr. Kourosh Malek - FZJ (DE)
  • Discovery – from elements to applications (methodology, process..)  Dr. Nele Van Steenberge - OCAS/Arcelor Mittal
  • Mechanical characterization of miniaturized specimens  Dr. Marta Serrano Garcia - CIEMAT (ES)
  • In-situ/operando characterizations (chemical, mechanical, EC, etc.)  Dr. Astrid Besmehn - FZJ (DE)

Registrations are open at this link.

This initiative is also part of the ORIENT-NM action, which is funded by Euratom as part of the Horizon 2020 Framework Programme, under grant agreement No. 899997 – For more information:
