EERA Joint Programme on Clean Hydrogen Elects New Management Board

On 19 June 2026, the second Steering Committee meeting of the restructured EERA Joint Programme on Clean Hydrogen took place, resulting in the election of a new Management Board.

The Steering Committee elected Professor Peter Wasserscheid as the new Joint Programme Coordinator. A recognised leader in the field of hydrogen and energy technologies, he has served as founding director of several hydrogen-related institutes and has authored more than 600 scientific publications, with an h-index of 100.

The renewed Joint Programme has adopted a broader scope, creating stronger synergies with key stakeholders across the European hydrogen R&I ecosystem, particularly Hydrogen Europe Research, the Clean Hydrogen Partnership and the SET Plan Implementation Working Group on Hydrogen. The expanded scope also encompasses a wider range of hydrogen carriers and utilisation pathways beyond electricity-based production, enabling the inclusion of a broader spectrum of industrial applications and use cases.

Building on long-standing collaboration within the European hydrogen community, the Joint Programme is well positioned to support the evolving European hydrogen agenda. This is further reinforced by EERA's active engagement in key governance structures, including the Stakeholders Group of the Clean Hydrogen Partnership, chaired by EERA Vice-President Nils Røkke, who was recently re-elected.

In the coming months, the Joint Programme will contribute actively to several SET Plan workstreams, including the development of key strategic documents such as the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA). It will also launch a series of activities aimed at strengthening coordination, fostering collaboration and streamlining hydrogen research and innovation efforts across Europe.
