EERA launches new Joint Programme on Energy Security and Resilience

Following approval by the EERA Executive Committee on 29 April and formal adoption by the EERA General Assembly on 13 May, the establishment of the new EERA transversal Joint Programme on Energy Security and Resilience (tJP-ESR) is now officially confirmed.

The tJP-ESR has its roots in the work of EERA's Working Group on Resilience and Preparedness, which was set up to examine the growing importance of resilience and preparedness in the context of Europe's energy transition. This work resulted in the position paper “Resilience and Preparedness in Europe's Energy Transition: the role of low-carbon energy R&I”, presented at the EERA High-Level Policy Conference in December 2025.

Building on these foundations, and in response to the rapidly evolving European policy and geopolitical landscape, the EERA Presidency proposed in early 2026 the creation of a dedicated transversal Joint Programme. Like the existing tJP Digital for Energy, the tJP-ESR will combine dedicated and transversal sub-programmes implemented jointly with the relevant EERA Joint Programmes.

A Core Definition Team was established to develop a High-Level Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (HL-SRIA) as the foundation for the new programme. Following an open consultation period during which EERA members were invited to provide feedback on the draft, the final HL-SRIA was adopted by the General Assembly and is now available here

As a next step, EERA invites all interested members to an information webinar on 18 June 2026 (10:30–12:00 CEST), presenting the HL-SRIA, the objectives and functioning of the tJP-ESR, and the upcoming governance elections.

Following the webinar, a call for candidates for the positions of Joint Programme Coordinator, Vice-JPC and Sub-Programme Coordinators will open until 14 August 2026, with elections scheduled for 15 September 2026.
