Green Shift in the North Sea region: Fostering dialogue, collaboration, and R&I in the pursuit of a sustainable energy future

The Norwegian Embassies to Belgium, Denmark, Germany, and the Netherlands together with the independent research organization SINTEF are organising the GreenShift final event, Green Shift in the North Sea region: Fostering dialogue, collaboration, and R&I in the pursuit of a sustainable energy future.

Stakeholders from business, governments, and research organizations are invited to share their perspectives on several main issues including:

  • What role does research and innovation play in building European competitiveness?
  •  Why is infrastructure key to truly decarbonise the European economy and how can research and innovation contribute to cost efficiency?
  • Why is bilateral and multilateral research and innovation collaboration crucial to accelerate and eventually succeed in the European green transition?

Through short introductions and dialogue with panel participants and audience, the speakers are invited to share their insights on how research and innovation can be used as a tool to secure the European green transition.

The aim of the event is to strengthen a shared vision of how pan-European – and particularly bilateral and multilateral – research and innovation collaboration can be enhanced and stronger underpin the European green transition.

Confirmed speakers include:

  • Terje Aasland, Norwegian Minister of Energy
  • Joanna Drake, Deputy Director General DG Research and Innovation
  • Håkon Hauglie, CEO Innovation Norway
  • Grete Tveit, Senior Vice President Equinor

Background

The GreenShift summit series has gathered stakeholders from businesses, governments, and research organisations throughout the autumn 2023 to discuss crucial next steps to develop and strengthen the deployment of offshore wind, CCUS/hydrogen and green shipping in Europe. This final event is tailored to address the insights gained from the previous three summits while taking a deep look at how research and innovation can strengthen the European competitiveness and contribute to timely and cost-efficient deployment of energy infrastructures for profound decarbonization. In light of this potential, the value of bilateral and multilateral research and innovation collaboration within Europe will be discussed, exemplified through the five countries participating in GreenShift, and identify how this can be strengthened and extrapolated elsewhere in Europe.
