International Cooperation on Innovative Materials for Energy Workshop

Materials for Energy (M4E) will be hosting a hybrid workshop on “International cooperation on innovative materials for energy,” taking place in Brussels and online on 19 April 2024 from 9:15-16:00 CEST.

This workshop is the first of a series of two which aim to mobilise public and private relevant stakeholders to explore the advanced materials needed to be developed for the green and digital transitions, along with the ground-breaking Materials Acceleration Platforms that will enable this, considering the recent proposals of the European Commission on industrial policy, critical raw materials, and advanced materials.

Supported by Mission Innovation (MI), it will focus on research and innovation on innovative/advanced materials for energy and aims at finding ways to incentivise policy makers and financial institutions to increase support for materials initiatives.

This first workshop will specifically assess the state of play and look into the main domains where international cooperation will be needed to accelerate the development of advanced materials for the green and digital transitions. It will also delve into flanking measures, such as infrastructure needs for characterisation, modelling, or testing, with the aim of listing urgent areas for investment. The event will also seek to highlight possible joint work with the other parts of MI.

A follow-up workshop will be held in June 2024, aimed at developing a preliminary analysis of the funding needs and political support required to develop joint communities of researchers, materials developers, and clean energy investors –resulting in a draft MI Materials for Energy Action Plan.

Register your interest in attending (in-person or virtual) here by 12:00 CEST, 16 April 2024.
