Catalysing European energy research for a climate-neutral society by 2050
On Friday 24 January, the Governing Board of BatteRIes Europe met for the first time. Together with EIT InnoEnergy (coordinator) and EASE, EERA is a partner in the ETIP, which Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič acknowledged in his speech: “I also would like to thank all partners with whom I have worked in previous years, notably the InnoEnergy, the European Energy Research Alliance (EERA) and the European Association for Storage of Energy (EASE).”
He highlighted the role that BatteRIes Europe will play as the research and innovation strand of the European Battery Alliance. Mr Šefčovič: “Its biggest added value is that it works across sectors and throughout the whole value chain.”
He emphasized that the European Commission is ready to considerably increase the funding on batteries in the next 7 years and that the level of funding under the new multiannual financial framework is planned to be higher than between 2014-2020.
