EERA JP E3s workshop “Social Science and Humanities’ contribution to the energy transition

October 11, 2018 from 9.00 – 13.00h

MEETING VENUE: University of Torino, Lungo Dora Siena 100 A, 10153 Torino, Italy

As the energy sector transforms from a largely infrastructure-driven business into a decentralized and digitized landscape with a growing number of different actors, scientists and policymakers are adopting a new perspective on developments in this highly strategic sector. In this context, insights proceeding from social science and humanities (SSH) disciplines offer explanations for actors’ behavior, citizen engagement, social innovation and technology adoption, which, combined, are driving the energy transition forward.

By means of the present workshop, the EERA Joint Programme offers an opportunity to researchers working at the intersection of energy and SSH to discuss the usefulness of SSH findings and contributions for the governance of the energy transition in an open and critical way. Three questions will guide us through the participative sessions:

  • What have we learned in recent projects about citizens and their engagement in the production and consumption of energy?
  • What are the new tools that researchers can make available to the new actors in the energy sector?
  • What resistance to change can we expect from incumbents?

To register for the workshop, please write to the EERA e3s coordinator: daniela.velte@tecnalia.com or sign up directly at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/eera-e3s-steering-committee-torino-10th-11th-october-2018-tickets-48023464475.
