E3S workshop “CHALLENGES OF THE ENERGY TRANSITION AND IDEA CREATION” – Rome, 6 March, 2018

06/03/2018

The EERA Joint Programme on Economic, Environmental and Social impacts of Energy Policies and Technologies (E3S) is organising a workshop on Challenges of the Energy Transition and Idea Creation”, at the ENEA headquarters in Rome (IT), on 6 March 2018.

Background and objectives of the workshop

As citizen engagement, policy measures and technology progress are driving forward the energy transition in Europe, regional and national governments, as well as the companies from the energy sector are facing serious and unprecedented challenges, such as

  • How to manage an energy system with a multitude of new and not necessarily professional actors offering small-scale production and flexibility potential to the market?
  • How to manage the exit from fossil fuels in a socially acceptable way?
  • How to progress towards greater energy efficiency also with regard to electricity consumption while at the same time electrifying transport?
  • Which regulatory tools (legal, taxes, command-and-control) are appropriate to induce sustainable behaviour and engagement?

Researchers working at the intersection of energy and social and environmental sciences are therefore challenged to come up with new ideas for governing the transition process, and to test and implement them. A radically new perspective is required to understand the transformation of a highly complex system in time of accelerated technical progress.  The researchers contributing to this workshop will launch proposals for such a new perspective and submit them to an open idea creation process.

To register for the workshop, please write to the EERA e3s coordinator: daniela.velte@tecnalia.com.

The workshop is free of charge, but registration is required.
