Joint Programs in EERA

Related to the aims of the SET-Plan and the undoubtedly increasing need of energy in Europe and beyond, the founding institutes of the European energy Research Alliance (EERA) decided to support the scientific and technical development on a broad base of energy research in parallel.

The EERA Executive Committee selected research fields where EERA prepares for the creation of different joint programmes. It is foreseen, to launch first joint programmes in some of these field early in 2010.
The selected research fields are:

Basic Science for Energy
BioFuels
Clean Coal – CO2 capturing
Clean Coal – CO2 storage
Clean Coal – other aspects (eg. Coal to Liquid)
Concentrated Solar Power
Electric power storage transportation & networks
Fuel Cells
Geothermal Energy
Marine Energy
Materials for Nuclear
Solar Photovoltaic
Transmission and distribution network for the future
Wind Energy

The EERA prepare and perform evaluation workshops (EERA pilot workshops) to be able to collect the important key players and necessesary know how, personnel resources and research infrastructures to develop the level of European programmatic joint research activities in selected research field (see also EVENTS-Workshops).

The EERA-Executive Committee will arrange a hearing related to the status and readiness to launch EERA-Joint Programs in 2010 on the 26th of January. The following areas are selected for individual presentations: BioFuels, CCS, CSP, Geothermal Energy, Materials for Nuclear, PV, Smart Grids and Wind Energy.

Applications related to the indicated areas must be submitted by the nominated or elected Joint Program Coordinators to the EERA secretariat until the 6th of January 2010.

For the written form of the Joint Program documentation the EERA secretariat provides a "Joint Program Template" (see Downloads) and for the presentation of the status an "EERA-Presentation Template". For more informations see below (Joint Programs Hearing).

Up to now, the collection of thematic areas is not completed. Depending on the success and progress in the fields selected, more will follow.

Results and the actual status in several research fields with respect to the joint programming can be found here.
